The end of VISION 2020 presents new challenges in blindness prevention programs in the world. The new strategy, 2030 in Sight, aims to create more accessible access to good quality eye health services, prioritize preventable blindness, and remove barriers that prevent the full participation of patients with permanent vision impairment. This can be achieved through collaboration and cooperation between ophthalmologists, the government and various related sectors, from local to global, so that it is hoped that the Sustainable Development Goals can be achieved.
The Sumatra Ophthalmologist Meeting (SOM) is a place for scientific activities and gatherings for members of the Indonesian Ophthalmologist Association (PERDAMI) branches throughout Sumatra which are regularly held. This activity aims to increase the knowledge and skills of members of Perdami branches throughout Sumatra in accordance with developments in science and technology, to meet community needs.
The implementation of the 15th SOM was entrusted to PERDAMI West Sumatra and raised the theme “From the Pandemic to 2030 In Sight: Ending Avoidable Sight Loss”. This activity will be held in Bukittinggi, on March 2 – 4 2023.
